REPORTS TO: Assistant VC for Marketing & Communications

SUPERVISION: May supervise the work of students as needed

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Working collaboratively with University Marketing, Online & Continuing Education, and other university enrollment areas, manage and develop marketing communications designed to recruit and enroll qualified students. The Specialist is responsible for ensuring website, email, advertising, social media, and other communications are accurate and engaging for targeted audiences. The Specialist will be responsible for strategic marketing campaigns across multiple channels; gathering and organizing project deliverables and ensuring deadlines are met. Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In conjunction with the University Marketing team and primarily, OCE leadership; plan, develop and implement student recruitment marketing and communication strategies to support enrollment goals
  • Using enrollment cycles and recruitment funnel conversion goals, facilitate the development of short and long-term communication plans
  • From concept to execution, capture engaging stories through web features, videos, email communications, and social media content. These could be student features, employer testimonials, alumni outcomes, etc.
  • Develop project plans and work closely with members of the University Marketing team to create and/or update website content, social media content, video, advertising, and email communications that focus on recruitment for OCE
  • Using the university CRM, write and edit email communications for leads, prospects, and applicants across the enrollment funnel, manage event communications, and develop complex email campaign strategies
  • Ensure the umassd.edu/online website is accurate, engaging, and SEO optimized
  • Manage targeted social media accounts for OCE enrollment, and develop timely and engaging content with the goal of growing and engaging prospective audiences
  • Working directly with agencies, managing digital advertising campaign content and strategy under the direction of the AVC of Marketing, OCE leadership, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure marketing materials are consistent and accurate. Working with appropriate departments or external vendors to ensure consistency and accuracy of rankings, statistics, and pride/proof points on all marketing channels
  • Act as the OCE representative with media outlets to research, recommend, and execute print ads, radio ads, online ads, and direct mail campaigns when needed
  • Create, analyze, and communicate marketing reports to drive effective marketing efforts. This includes digital advertising, social media, CRM communications, enrollment data, and more
  • Regularly research best practices in web content, email, and social media marketing, and take initiative to recommend new strategies and work with marketing colleagues to expand skillsets
  • As needed, attend on and off-campus events, supporting brand alignment of marketing materials and staying current with competitor marketing practices
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree.
  • EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated (over three years) experience in communications and/or project management - developing, managing, and implementing projects from concept to execution. 
  • OTHER: Some evening/weekend hours required.  Local and regional travel may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience working with admissions or enrollment areas
  • Strong skills in email marketing 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills across a variety of media
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Strong initiative to develop creative approaches and solutions to problems
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with multiple teams as a liaison
  • Ability to evaluate complex projects and make recommendations
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team

SALARY: $57,791 - $74,000
