Job Summary
The Global Safety and Security Coordinator supports health, safety and security for the University's travelers abroad by conducting research, monitoring global events, and performing a variety of tasks pertaining to and in support of international safety and security initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Assists with implementing the University of Massachusetts’ Board of Trustees High-Risk Travel Policy for graduate students, faculty, and staff traveling abroad, including maintenance and review of the high-risk destination database.
- Maintains and updates Office of Global Affair's (OGA) overseas emergency incident database.
- Responsible for the registration and pre-departure support for non-credit student group travel abroad; assists with risk-reviews for such trips.
- Performs research, monitors global events, and produces analytical reports to supplement ongoing international travel support due to emergent incidents; assists with follow-up as necessary.
- Coordinates data entry, maintenance, and administrative support for Concur, Healix, and other university travel registry and incident management systems; produces data reports for insurance renewals.
- Manages the Global Safety and Security area of OGA’s website and related communications materials.
- Assists with the development and delivery of pre-departure orientations, security briefings and consultations for university travelers.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor's Degree with at least two years of full-time work experience.
- Ability to perform research and synthesize vast quantities of information.
- Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrated initiative as an individual contributor.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, and collaboration tools like SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work with a high degree of discretion and professionalism with sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Demonstrated interest in International Affairs or Security, Global Affairs, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a related field
- Experience living, studying or working outside the United States
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Typical office environment.
- This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
Work Schedule
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
