Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, in collaboration with other health care providers, is responsible for the triage, assessment and patient care of illness, injury and general health concerns for all patients using University Health Services (UHS). Nursing services are provided during regular clinic hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for age appropriate nursing care through the nursing process. Determines the severity of the patient's problem based upon data collection and patient history and identifies the routine, urgent or emergent nature involved. This is accomplished by telephone interaction with the patient or in person (walk-in patients).
- Provides nursing care, treatment, medications, and patient care plans as ordered by the provider (MD/NP/PA). Accurately and appropriately communicates and documents patient response to care and change in patient condition.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice, including a working knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment and supplies. Keeps precise problem oriented health records. Considers factors relating to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care. Uses Universal Precautions when exposed to blood and body fluids.
- Adheres to policies and procedures of UHS. Participates in regularly scheduled nursing meetings, committees and task forces. Participates in programs of quality improvement, peer review, and continuing education. Participates in RN Clinical rotation and provides coverage for allergy/travel RN, as needed.
- Responsible for patient education such as prevention, healthy lifestyle promotion, age appropriate health concerns and appropriate use and access of medical services.

- Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited BSN degree program and 3 years progressively responsible general clinical experience or Associate’s degree from an accredited relevant field and 5 years clinical experience equivalent to the BSN.
- Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Certified in basic CPR at hire and bi-annually renewed.

- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients.
- Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.

- Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with University policy.
