Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Administration and Finance Operations with an indirect line to the Assistant Chancellor for Great Boston Strategic Initiatives, the Mount Ida Campus Director of Business Operations is responsible for management of key functions including administration, finance, dining, hospitality, information technology, security, health services and other campus student services.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for daily operations and management with oversight of key campus functions ensuring service levels and safety are responsive and appropriate for evolving student, faculty, staff, and other partner.
- Serves as the primary campus liaison with UMass Amherst business units, including Administration & Finance, Auxiliary Services, Information Technology, Health Services and UMass Police Department.
- Responsible for Mt. Ida campus finances, including managing contracts, assessing cost saving measures and enhancing revenue generation potential of the campus. Develops budgets to include forecasting, monitoring, spending and reporting variances with signature authority to implement solutions and release funds.
- Accepts responsibility for assigned University funds and applies and conforms to institutional financial policies. Ensures transactions are processed and reported properly (e.g. Tax, HR, Legal, Federal).
- Responsible for managing relationships with campus tenants, including leasing, billing, service provision and issues management. Leads the daily campus stand-up meeting ensuring that all operations, including facilities, maintenance, capital projects, events, student activities, and tenant activities are visible to campus personnel and appropriate cross-department communications have been made.
- Responsible for developing, building, acquiring, and managing systems to ensure a high level of service to students, efficient operation of the campus, and seamless integration with the Amherst campus. Responsible for all campus community members, students, faculty, staff, and tenants, are monitored and connected to appropriate systems and services, including but not limited to Spire, access control, the campus Uber program, and the Rave emergency communications system.
- Develops and implements administrative policies and procedures to increase efficiency, compliance, and safety.
- Monitors operational capacity and makes decisions regarding internal and external partner requests for support of facilities and services.
- Collaborates with leadership to identify and address HR organizational issues and priorities. Supports organizational change initiatives through communications and works with A & F HR to prevent and help mediate sensitive and confidential workplace disputes and grievances.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor’s degree required with over six (6) years of progressive experience in business administration, business operations or finance.
- Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience.
- Experience with technology (IT), and project management.
- Ability to work independently and manage in a complex environment.
- Ability to create, build and lead teams.
- Excellent overall business acumen with the ability to interact and communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with all levels of employees, business executives and university leadership.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Experience in academics or higher education.
- Experience in a Unionized environment.

Work Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday hours may be required as business needs dictate.
