JOB TITLE:  Head Coach for Women’s Swimming and Diving/Aquatics Assistant Director

DIVISION:  Administration & Facilities

 REPORTS TO:  Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities

SUPERVISES:  Exercises direct supervision of the Recreation Facilities Supervisor II, 15 to 20 part-time Lifeguards, 2 to 3 part-time Assistant Coaches, and 5 to 10 work-study students.

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:  The Head Coach of the Women’s Swimming and Diving Team is responsible for the staffing and scheduling of all activities in the Natatorium and coordinates scheduling of campus and outside groups. The incumbent works with department and campus personnel on recreational programming in the Natatorium and to ensure the proper maintenance of the Natatorium, including compliance with state and federal pool-related regulations.

Follows the University's best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assists in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all the duties associated with managing and serving as the Head Coach of Women’s Swimming and Diving, including but not limited to managing practices and competitions, team recruitment and retention, budget management (e.g., equipment, recruiting, personnel), supervision and mentoring of assistant coaches, mentoring student-athletes, competition schedule development, transportation, and meals for away contests, alumni, and family engagement
  • Abides by NCAA, Conference, and institutional policies and rules, including the NCAA Principals of Ethical Conduct
  • Reinforces the priorities of health and safety through attention to the NCAA Sports Sciences Institute consensus statements, institutional policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with the Sports Medicine Office to ensure health and injury procedures are maintained
  • Collaborates with department personnel relative to team publicity and statistics, to help maintain and collect athletic equipment, and to maintain sport and locker room facilities
  • Assists with the selection and ordering of new equipment for swimming and diving (e.g., suits, caps, uniforms)
  • Recruits, hires, assigns, trains, and supervises certified lifeguards and other assigned staff for all pool activities
  • Implements regulations and water safety procedures for pools
  • Coordinates scheduling of campus and outside groups with department and campus personnel
  • Works with department and campus personnel on recreational programming in the Natatorium 
  • Works with department and campus facilities personnel to ensure the proper maintenance of the Natatorium, including observation of state and federal pool-related regulations
  • Ensures institutional compliance with all certified pool operator duties
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organization needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree
  • EXPERIENCE: 
    • Demonstrated (over 3 years) collegiate recruiting and coaching experience in swimming
    • Demonstrated (over 3 years) experience in swimming pool administration 
  • OTHER:  Ability to work flexible hours which includes evenings and weekends; Local and regional travel required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Certified Pool Operators Certification or willingness to secure the certification
  • Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor Certification or willingness to secure the certification
  • Experience overseeing and/or coaching diving

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of and ability to teach the latest techniques in collegiate swimming
  • Ability to supervise, instruct, and deal effectively with students and staff
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Knowledge and ability to implement University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to maintain favorable relations with university and community groups
  • Strong commitment to the NCAA Division III Philosophy
  • Ability to coordinate and negotiate with internal and external groups regarding the use of athletic facilities

SALARY:  $68,565.00 – $87,858.09
