SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL), the Coordinator for Leadership, Evening & Weekend Programs coordinates all student-related evening and weekend activities and functions in support of the personal growth and development of all students.  As a highly valued campus partner, the coordinator continues the tradition of providing a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students.  Responsibilities include evening and weekend activities, events and programs, budget management, student advising, and policy development. This role involves a close partnership with the Assistant Director of SAIL, focusing on collaborating with the campus community to offer leadership development opportunities to students, club sports and student organizations.  Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, coordinates, and initiates student-related activities and functions related to Evening & Weekend and Summer Programs in conjunction with the Assistant Director of SAIL
  • Partners with the Assistant Director in tracking expenditures, creating event budgets, and with contract negotiations for performers and services
  • Directly supervise student staff who coordinate office directed projects and events
  • Provides support for late night student organization events and serves as the on-site staff member as needed
  • Oversee the creation and advising of a student run programming board in conjunction with the Assistant Director of SAIL
  • Partners with SAIL staff in the coordination, preparation and dissemination of publications for student organizations and student activities to the campus community.
  • Assists in preparing and editing student flyers, posters, literature, and other materials prepared by student groups for on and off-campus distribution. Implements and oversees processes for posting/distributing materials on campus as requested
  • Assists in the assessment and evaluation of SAIL programs, initiatives and services
  • Maintains accurate records of Student Activities events, including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations
  • Maintains and regularly publishes an up-to-date calendar of activities and events that is made readily available to all UMass Dartmouth students
  • Communicates with current and potential students about events and opportunities
  • Serve as a generalist in the Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned and/or the job description changed periodically to reflect changing organization needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in a closely related field (Psychology, Education, student development, educational leadership, or counseling and personnel service) is required.

EXPERIENCE: One-year full-time or two academic years part-time campus programming experience in a student union/campus center or student activities-related position required.

OTHER: Commitment to working beyond the typical workweek is essential. This role often requires evening and weekend hours, dictated by job demands. Any hours exceeding the standard 37.5 hours per week will be compensated per the ESU bargaining unit contract.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with social media
  • Demonstrated understanding of and a commitment to the community university mission and purpose; teaching and learning; high academic standards; and student success 
  • Knowledge and experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint presentation
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and the general public
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, employees, and the public
  • Skill in facilitating and modeling a quality customer service orientation
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and conduct/complete independent work assignments
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body is required
  • Ability to develop educational, social, cultural, and recreational activities to meet student needs and wishes

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A master’s degree in higher education, student affairs or a related field (student development, educational leadership, counseling and personnel services)
  • Two years full-time campus programming experience in a student union/campus center or student activities-related position (including internship or graduate assistantship) preferred
  • Knowledge using Adobe Creative Cloud programs Photoshop and Illustrator or other graphic design software
  • Demonstrated skill in administrative procedures, programming and events, contract negotiations, and/or publicity/promotion

Salary: $57,791 - $74,000
