REPORTS TO: Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts

SUPERVISES: CVPA Director of Recruitment, Retention and Student Success as well as the Clerk IV Administrative Assistant for the Dean’s Office.

 

SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:  The Associate Dean is a principal deputy reporting to the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and serves on a renewable 12-month appointment.  Working together with other members of the Dean’s Office staff and the Chairs and Directors Council, the Associate Dean supports the College in overseeing all matters relating to curriculum and program development, advising and support, student retention and recruitment, assessment, internship coordination, and inter-disciplinary relationships.  The Associate Dean serves as the College liaison to select university committees and programs, including but not limited to the Offices of Admissions, the Registrar, and Student Affairs, facilitates new academic and program initiatives, and serves as student/parent liaison.

 

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean and the Dean’s office staff in developing, assessing, and implementing policies and procedures for CVPA.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dean towards growth, development, and administration of undergraduate and graduate studies at UMass Dartmouth, including the expansion of enrollment in current programs, the development of new programs, and the review and approval of new courses and programs.
  • Work collaboratively with departments, the Deans office, and other CVPA to conduct regular program evaluations and development/implement a CVPA Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan.
  • Serve as institutional representative for NASAD and assist with AQAD, NEASC and DESE reviews.
  • Submit all required accreditation reports, annual audits, and new degree proposals as required by NASAD
  • Serve as a faculty and program resource for current policies impacting studies and advisement and develop new policies as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Chairs, Faculty and Dean’s Office staff to ensure that the catalog remains current.
  • Work with HR and Chairs to oversee the college’s PTL contract process.
  • Manage the college’s course schedule, including decisions about course cancellations, capacities, times and locations.
  • Work with OCE to schedule courses and administer online programs.
  • Manage the Artist-in-Residence Program.
  • Serve ex-officio on the CVPA Curriculum Committee, Foundations Committee and MFA Committee.
  • Liaison between Registrar’s office and CVPA students, faculty, and departments.
  • Work with MFA program Director, Grad Studies and Student Employment to oversee the processing graduate assistantships, fellowships and awards.
  • Works with Dean’s Office staff and Office of Financial Aid to award CVPA scholarships.
  • Work with the Dean to build international partnerships and study abroad opportunities for CVPA students and faculty.
  • Represent CVPA and administer special projects as assigned by the Dean.
  • Represent College as Dean’s designee as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Terminal degree from one of the visual and performing arts disciplines such as an MFA, Ph.D. Ed.D. or D.M.A.

EXPERIENCE: Significant administrative experience in a university setting with emphasis on visual and performing arts. Previous full-time teaching experience at the collegiate level.

  • Demonstrated professional achievement in one of the visual and performing arts disciplines.
