Assistant Professor – Physics Department
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in September 2022. We seek an expert in scientific computing with a strong record of research in the area of general relativity including gravitational wave astrophysics (theory, data analysis, or source modeling), computational relativity, or computational relativistic astrophysics. We seek candidates from any area that complements or diversifies the research strengths of UMass Dartmouth’s computational relativity and astrophysics research groups and our Center for Scientific Computing and Visualization Research (http://cscvr1.umassd.edu/groups.html), whose research groups include applied and computational mathematics, computational physics, computational fluid mechanics, and scientific machine learning. Successful candidates will become part of a world-class research group in the broad area of computational relativistic and gravitational astrophysics. The home department for this position will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate based on the candidate’s interests and best fit.
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. The successful candidate will also benefit from existing collaborations with multiple research groups in New England universities.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate (MS & PhD) students; contribute to university and professional service; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and engage in college and university diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctorate in physics, mathematics, computational science/engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research as well as diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong candidates will have significant research experience in scientific computing and a subfield of general relativity that complements and diversifies existing research activities at UMass Dartmouth. Postdoctoral research experience is highly desirable. We are especially interested in receiving qualified applications from scholars historically underrepresented in science, mathematics and engineering, veterans, and persons with disabilities.
