Tenure Track, Assistant Professor
The Department of Art + Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure track position with a starting date and appointment of September 1, 2020. We seek a colleague with significant professional experience, actively engaged in contemporary illustration and versed in both traditional and digital media, with an emphasis on working digitally.
Candidates should be prepared to teach illustration at all collegiate levels, undergraduate and graduate, from beginning to advanced courses. The primary responsibility will consist of leading five studio courses or 15 credits per academic year (9 credits one semester, 6 credits the other semester). Additional responsibilities include maintaining a rigorous scholarly agenda, advising students and participating in departmental, college, and university service. As our BFA program is dedicated to supporting an integration of the studio arts, ideal candidates will also have experience teaching courses in one or more of our other Art + Design concentrations (see umassd.edu/cvpa/programs/).
An MFA in Illustration or Animation, or an equivalent terminal degree in a closely related field; a demonstrated, significant record of professional or scholarly achievement; current professional working experience in the field of Illustration; well versed in the technology currently used in professional practice; at least two years of college-level teaching experience.
Professional practice and teaching experience in one or more genres of illustration, for example: editorial, commercial, concept art, technical/biological, children’s books, or comics. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Ideal candidates will have demonstrated professional or teaching experience in 2D animation, evidence of innovative professional activity and cross-disciplinary practices, community engagement, and experience teaching in another one of our eleven (11) Art + Design concentrations (see umassd.edu/cvpa/programs/)
