Full-Time Lecturers - Department of English (FYE)

The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth seeks one or more Full-Time Lecturers in English to teach in the First-Year English program for September 1, 2019.

These positions carry a 4/4 course load, are contracted and benefited, and have access to on-going professional development and department service opportunities. Contracts are for two years and are renewable.  We are particularly interested in increasing the diversity of our faculty and strongly encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups.

UMass Dartmouth is on the south coast of Massachusetts, less than an hour’s drive from Boston, Providence, and Cape Cod.  UMass Dartmouth is a doctoral research university (DRU) providing excellent undergraduate education. These Full-Time Lecturer positions represent an administrative commitment to and investment in general education as the cornerstone of an undergraduate education.

The primary responsibilities will be to teach in the two-semester sequence of First-Year English and engage in student advising. Lecturers with appropriate training may also be asked to teach courses in Business Communications, Technical Communications, Writing for the Sciences, and Intermediate Composition.  Candidates with an interest and experience in curriculum design, assessment practices, and/or composition pedagogy are particularly invited to apply.

Minimum Qualifications: ABD in English or closely related field required. At least two years of experience and demonstrated success teaching writing at the college/university-level are required.

Preferred Qualifications:  Ph.D. in English or closely related field or Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition. Experience in any of the following areas will be a plus:  ESL/multilingual learner certification or instruction; teaching developmental writing; teaching professional, technical, and/or scientific writing.
