Faculty Position in Mechanical Engineering

 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level beginning in September 2019. The department is seeking candidates with research focus in the area of experimental fluid dynamics. The College of Engineering and the university have a focus on strengthening existing expertise in the broad areas of renewable energy and marine science and engineering. The college is particularly interested in a candidate who will play a role in advancing the region’s blue economy initiative (https://www.umassd.edu/media/umassdartmouth/outreach/SouthCoast-Blue-Economy-White-Paper.pdf).

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students; enhance curriculum; contribute to university and professional service, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment, be able to teach courses in mechanical engineering, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly research.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have research experience in a mechanical engineering field and teaching experience in higher education. Postdoctoral research in an interdisciplinary setting is highly desirable. We are especially interested in receiving qualified applications from underrepresented groups, including women.
