SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Associate Director will work to ensure that students with disabilities are provided the academic accommodations and services to ensure equal access to educational opportunities and promote success. Manage a student case load and provide direct student services. Specifically, services will include, but are not limited to, intake consultation and registration for services and student accommodations. Identify and develop appropriate academic accommodations, auxiliary aids, and services. Support student self-advocacy, maintain on-going disability-related support, and possess a strong commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
Follows the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.
EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct service to a case load of students with disabilities including implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of academic accommodations
- Analyze psycho-educational evaluations and other appropriate documentation to determine accommodations and recommend supportive academic services
- Consult with medical professionals, psychologists, social workers and others to ensure that accommodations are appropriate to address students' needs
- Consult with faculty regarding students’ afforded accommodations
- Coordinate testing accommodations and administer examinations when appropriate
- Facilitate academic support groups for students
- Coordinate testing accommodations, provide individual academic skill building sessions for students, and administer examinations
- Represent and present information regarding the CAS at campus-wide activities such as New Student Orientation, Open Houses, etc.
- Investigate best practices and current development related to the department and topics associated with collegiate access and success
- Communicate information and provide support to prospective students, parents, and other interested parties within and outside of the University regarding documentation requirements, disability-related services, and referrals
- Assume administrative duties of the Director in his/her absence
- Provide general program support and perform other duties as assigned by the Director or her/his designee
EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated (over three years) direct experience working with students with disabilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Demonstrated ability in planning, implementing and evaluating student service delivery
- Ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
- Must have working knowledge of ADA and amendments, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other federal and state statutes related to students with disabilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of computer applications used in a typical office environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Direct experience working with students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment.
