Job Description:

The College of Nursing, Community Nursing Department seeks an experienced and innovative teacher, scholar and administrator for the position of Chair of the Community Nursing Department. The Community Nursing Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Focus areas within the curriculum include community/global population health; women’s, pediatric and family health; and psychiatric and behavioral health. This appointment is at the rank of Associate Professor, and tenure transfer to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is possible for candidates who already hold tenure at a comparable educational institution.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Applicants will have an earned research doctorate in Nursing (PhD) or related field, a Master’s in Nursing degree, and RN license in Massachusetts or eligibility for licensure. Applicants must have a successful record of teaching with the ability to sustain a program of funded research, secure external funding, and participate in community outreach. Although not limited to these areas, applicants with a program of research or scholarship in community engagement and participatory approaches; social justice, health equity and health disparities; or global health are encouraged to apply. Additional responsibilities include teaching and student advisement.

Past administrative experience and a collaborative management style are essential to this role. The chair works with the faculty to set the direction of the department. The chair is responsible for ensuring quality of the curriculum, faculty recruitment and development initiatives, supporting faculty scholarship and professional work, and building community relationships. The chair also works with faculty to develop new program offerings, as appropriate, and collaborates with internal departments to ensure programmatic goals are met. The chair manages the departmental budget and faculty resources, including personnel review.

The chair reports to the Dean of the College of Nursing and is a member of College Executive Leadership Team. This position provides the opportunity to advance an academic administrative career.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three or more years of academic administrative experience.

The College of Nursing has 29 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in two Departments-Adult Nursing and Community Nursing. The baccalaureate degree program has approximately 450 students in the pre-licensure track, 250 students in the fully online RN-BS track, and 48 students in the second degree accelerated BS hybrid track. The College also offers graduate programs at the MS, DNP, and PhD level, with approximately 120 students enrolled across the graduate programs. The College is committed to building nursing scholarship in the areas of chronic illness, nursing education and global population health. The College has a long standing teaching and research collaboration with the College of Engineering. The College also has a growing portfolio of international collaborations and offers unique clinical experiences through these collaborations. Programs are fully accredited by CCNE.
